Dodge rocking all week long during Dream Cruise

Enthusiasts sharing their passion for cars will be parked up and down Woodward Avenue Saturday, like the Club LX of Michigan was last year.

Auto enthusiasts sharing their passion will be parked up and down Woodward Avenue Saturday, like the Club LX of Michigan was last year.

If you’re in Metro Detroit, or within driving distance, this week is one of the best times of the year: it’s the annual Woodward Dream Cruise. About 1 million people are expected along Woodward Avenue as causal and die-hard automotive enthusiasts gather to relive the simple pleasure of cruisin’, whether they’re driving or just admiring the view.

Clubs and individual enthusiasts will stake their claim up and down Woodward from Ferndale, north to Pontiac. Detroit Area Modern Mopars will be located just inside the Birmingham city line, near Emmons Avenue, north of 14 Mile. Crossfire International Car Club will be at its usual spot at Memorial Park, just north of 13 Mile. Again, Crossfire designer Eric Stoddard will be there. North Oakland Mopar Muscle will be back at the bank, just north of 14 Mile.

And, there’ll be many more clubs all along Woodward.

The Detroit 3 also will have plenty of activities to keep you busy. While each of the FCA US brands will be involved, Dodge, with its heritage in the muscle car era, will have the largest presence.

We’ll be located, as usual, at the southwest corner of 13 Mile and Woodward for Saturday. But the Dream Cruise sparks many events that lead up to the big day.

Wednesday, Pontiac Silverdome, starting at 4 p.m.: ROADKILL Nights, Powered by Dodge: Drag race your own car, walk through a 150-car show, watch the featured drag race pitting Hellcat-powered Richard Rawlings’ 1967 Dodge Dart versus David Freiberger’s 1968 Dodge Charger, take thrill rides and enter to win a Hellcat engine, courtesy of TEN: The Enthusiast Network. (ROADKILL events are free, but registration is required.)

Thursday, SW corner of 13 Mile and Woodward: Motor City Viper Club returns for its annual show, 6-9 p.m., with 120 or so Vipers.

Friday, SW corner of 13 Mile and Woodward: Dodge Owners’ Night, with 100+ Dodge Charger, Challenger and LX body and Scat Pack Forum members expected for the annual pre-WDC gathering, 6-9 p.m.

Of course, our spot at 13 Mile and Woodward will be bigger and better than ever – with Dodge taking center stage. Highlights include:

  • Dodge and SRT performance vehicles, including the new 2016 Dodge Viper ACR, and the 707-horsepower Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat vehicles. In addition, select vehicles from the Dodge lineup will be on display.
  • Take a ride in a Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat and Dodge Viper in the Drag-n-Drift thrill rides with a professional driver on a closed course
  • ROADKILL hosts will recreate the Dodge Viper/Challenger/Charger Tug of War three times at 11:45 a.m., 1:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
  • Play games and win free stuff, including exclusive Woodward Dream Cruise special-edition Dodge SRT Hellcat and Viper T-shirts or get a temporary airbrushed tattoo
