As students and parents settle in to the start of the school year, the topic of discussion around many dinner tables across the country is focused on the age-old question of, what do I want to be when I grow up? Deciding on a career path, whether it’s your first or even starting a second, is never an easy decision. And who hasn’t heard the advice – do what you love and you will never work a day in your life. Well, automotive lovers take note because we may just have the career for you!
As vehicles continue to become more technologically advanced, the need for skilled automotive technicians will increase. In fact, over the next eight years there will be a need to hire an estimated 46,000 automotive technicians to meet demand. Did you know that, on average, a skilled and experienced Mopar technician can make, on average, $40,000 – $70,000 a year.
To help meet the need for increased demand of highly trained automotive technicians, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles created the Mopar Career Automotive Program (MCAP). This program combines cutting-edge classroom instruction and hands-on advanced technical training from OEM-certified instructors who train students exclusively on Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram and FIAT brand vehicles. The program is available nationwide through participating community colleges, technical colleges and vocational schools.
If you are already attending a participating MCAP school, simply contact an advisor or the school’s MCAP coordinator to find out how to get started in the program. Depending on the individual school curriculum, students could complete the program with an associate degree (or equivalent) within 18-24 months.
Want to get started? Contact your preferred MCAP school to learn about enrollment requirements and qualifications, such as transcripts, high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency (e.g., a general education degree like a GED).
