When I think of a twinset, I think of Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and a fine cashmere blend.
Twinsets were all the rage in the 1940s through the 1960s. The matching cardigan worn over a short-sleeved sweater is a classic combo usually paired with a pencil skirt and pearls. It’s a look that transcends time and still looks polished today. But this isn’t a fashion blog about sweater sets, this blog is about another type of twinset – a retro Italian twinset made-up of a different type of material, but nonetheless fashionable.
This rare pair includes a 1950 Fiat 600 Multipla coupled with a 600 Jolly and they’re hitting the auction block this summer.
In 1956, the Fiat 600 Multipla was marketed as the vehicle with the 2-2-2 Winning Formation. The “mini” minivan could seat two up front, two at the back and two midfield. On board the Multipla, there’s room for everyone. Besides six seats, the Multipla boasted 22 hp and was often used as a taxi.
The Multipla was billed as “A Droplet of Surprise. The 600 Multipla is striking due to its droplet shape and rear-hinged doors, which make it original and attractive, but above all because inside you’ll find room for everything you need, including five of your friends.”
The Fiat 600 Jolly has been converted to a beach buggy complete with wicker seats and a canopy for shade.
Just like the sweater version of the twinset, this retro duo is a perfect match.

The auction takes place in Monterey, California on August 15 and 16 by RM Auctions.
So pack your pearls, grab your pocketbook and prepare to transcend time as you bid on a little piece of the past.
